National Journal - Just One Question
Marty Latz, President and CEO of ExpertNegotiator, was featured in the Just One Question section of the January 9, 2010 issue of the National Journal. Here is the question and his answer:
Q. Is it smarter for congressional leaders to hold negotiations over major bills behind closed doors or with television cameras in the room?
A. It would be highly imprudent to include cameras if congressional leaders want to efficiently resolve their differences and pass significant legislation. Since much of the public will likely view traditional congressional horse-trading with some distaste, and because this is often the grease that helps move significant bills, cameras could mark the death knell of major legislation.
